Local ABAM Events in June
Things You Can Do During ABAM
June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month (ABAM) — an opportunity to join the global conversation about the brain, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Everyone who has a brain is at risk to develop Alzheimer’s.
1. Love Your Brain
When people think about staying fit, they generally think from the neck down. But the health of your brain plays a critical role in almost everything you do: thinking, feeling, remembering, working, and playing – even sleeping. There are lifestyle habits that you can adopt to maintain or potentially improve your health as you age. These habits, spanning four categories — physical health and exercise, diet and nutrition, cognitive activity, and social engagement — can help keep your body and brain healthy and potentially reduce your risk of cognitive decline.
During the month of June, the Alzheimer’s Association® asks people around the world to take the Purple Pledge and use their brains to fight Alzheimer’s disease.
2. The Longest Day is on June 20th and You Can Join a Team Where You Live
The Longest Day is an event to honor the strength and endurance of those facing Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers. On June 17-20, team across Northern California & Northern Nevada will complete an activity of their choosing to raise awareness and funds for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. 3. California Advocacy Day is Happening on June 21st in Sacramento
Right after The Longest Day, the Alzheimer’s Association Advocacy Day will take place on June 21st. This one-day event is designed to support the passage of bills that will improve the quality of life for individuals with Alzheimer’s and their families. California advocates will rally in Sacramento to bring awareness to the increased occurrences of Alzheimer’s disease; the escalating number of family caregivers throughout the state; and the vital importance of aging programs and services for Californians.
