Memories in the Making is an Alzheimer’s Association art therapy program for individuals with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Volunteer facilitators help people with dementia – many of whom often have no art background – create drawings and paintings. These sessions provide participants social interaction and boost their self-esteem while opening the channels of communication with loved ones.

Today’s featured Memories in the Making artist is Alice. Alice lights up with delight when her artwork is praised. She has had her artwork in the Memories in the Making Auctions for the past several years and raised quite a sum of money for the Alzheimer’s Association. She is a natural. As a young woman, Alice received awards for five of her paintings. She had to curtail her art making when she started working. She taught art to middle school students and worked in her uncle’s button factory as office personnel. One of her fond memories from the past is chasing a litter of 9 St. Bernard puppies that she bred and raised, around a lake on her property. Alice is an avid reader and enjoys informative television. She mentors another MIM artist in whose company she enjoys.

Alice’s painting is just one of the many works of art that will be auctioned off at our annual Memories in the Making Art & Wine Auction, held this year on March 13th at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View. In addition to work by Memories in the Making artists, the silent and live auction selection will include fine wines, unique experiences and luxury items.
